On March 11, 2011, a 9.0-magnitude earthquake hit Japan, spawning a 23-foot tsunami that devastated the country's northeast coast only minutes later. This earthquake and subsequent tsunami caused enormous amounts of damage. Thousands of people were killed and still more were displaced. Entire towns were swept away or heavily damaged.

As of today, $2104.00 have been raised to help aid recovery efforts for the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

Senbazuru, 1000 Paper Cranes Legend

Senbazuru is a group of one thousand origami paper cranes held together by strings. An ancient Japanese legend promises that anyone who folds a thousand origami cranes will be granted a wish by a crane, such as long life or recovery from illness or injury. In Japan, it is commonly said that folding 1000 paper origami cranes makes a person's wish come true. [source from Wikipedia]

About Project Senbazuru

Project Senbazuru is an artistic response to the disaster situation in Japan. This project takes inspiration from Japanese legend, where the folding of one thousand origami paper cranes is said to grant a wish such as recovery from illness or injury. In the midst of loss, fear, and uncertainty, this illustration is meant to promote hope and renewed prosperity.
